Welcome to the Abegweit Chimes

The Abegweit Chimes, Prince Edward Island’s only women’s barbershop chorus, was chartered in 1982 as a registered non-profit organization and is a chapter of Harmony, Inc., a vibrant international singing organization of women who are dedicated to the performance and promotion of four-part a cappella harmony in the barbershop style, the celebration of friendship, personal growth and development through education, and the practice of democratic principles.

The 37 members of the Abegweit Chimes are women who value singing as an important part of their lives and are committed to developing their vocal skills. The Chimes generally place in the top five choruses in their annual area competition, and in the 2006 and 2007 they won the competition. They have twice been involved on the international level and are well-known across the Island for their smooth harmonies.

The chorus performs at local churches, nursing homes, community fundraisers and conventions. Theme packages are a specialty featuring musical eras, Irish music, wartime songs and sacred selections. We are community-minded through our support of other benefit efforts whenever possible.
