Director's Bio

Director Myrt McCardle has been a member of Harmony Inc. for 26 years.

Besides directing the Abegweit Chimes, she is a certified Presentation Judge and Coach, who delights in honing the presentation skills of Choruses and Quartets within our own organization and the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Myrt, who is a retired Registered Nurse, enjoys a broad range of music, and has been playing piano for many years, providing background for receptions, dinners, fashion shows, and working a piano bar or two.

She has three grown children and four grandchildren.

To keep active, she walks, gardens, skis and swims, and relaxes by reading, quilting, listening to, or playing music.

Eileen Braidwood has been singing with the Abegweit Chimes for only seven years, but has been singing barbershop with Harmony Inc. for nearly forty years. Her Barbershop career started in Montreal, moved on to Ottawa, and continues today in Prince Edward Island.

Eileen was an assistant director in Ottawa for many years, and has belonged to several quartets. She started singing barbershop as a tenor, but switched to baritone when there was a surplus of tenors, and not enough baritones in her chorus.

Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, and a keen singer in mixed voice choirs, Eileen discovered barbershop music after she came to Canada. She never looked back! Eileen enjoys the performance aspect of singing barbershop: the costumes, the makeup, the lights. She would miss her stage persona if she had to give it up.

She believes wholeheartedly that in barbershop, “you come for the music, and stay for the friendships”, and has made many friends, in Canada and the States, throughout her long association with Harmony Inc.
